This is destined to be a fantastic year at Gary Gates! The final phase of construction is underway and should be completed well before the start of the 2010 softball season.

 

In May 1999 over 100 community members joined in the celebration of the first lighting of the Gary Gates field.  This is still the only lighted high school softball field in Marin County. The snack shack and announcers booth opened for the 2002 softball season. In 2008 and 2009 we completed the installation of the bleachers and the handicap accessible announcers' platform. 

Last year thousands of fans enjoyed games played under the lights at Gary Gates Field. The field was home to our local recreation teams, the MCAL Champion San Marin Mustangs, the North Coast Section Championships and was the main field for the first annal Novato Classic Summer Softball Tournament.

The Bleachers were packed!

The dream of a premier championship facility has come to life and will certainly draw even more fans and players in the years to come.

We need your continued support to complete the paving of the entry patio, emergency access road and the handicap walkways.

Please plan to join us for the ANNUAL GARY GATES Dinner/Dance fund-raiser on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Our Lady of Loretto.  The event regularly has 200 to 300 attendees.

In addition to your attendance,we would appreciate any items that you can provide to be included in our silent or live auctions. 

Your contribution will be acknowledged at the event and you will receive a follow up letter for tax purpose.

We also have limited space available for advertising on the outfield fence.

In honor of Coach Gary Gates of San Marin High School, the Gary Gates Memorial Softball Field is a community-driven project to provide resources for youth in Novato, California.

The Gary Gates Memorial Softball Field is the only lighted softball field in Marin County and one of the finest fields in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most Division II colleges don't have fields as nice as the Gary Gates Memorial Softball Field.


The building of the softball field has been a community effort spearheaded by the diligent dedication of Jim Spilman. Due to his leadership, its construction was funded almost entirely by donations from the community.

Founded by Jim Spilman and Emily Gates, the Gary Gates Memorial Foundation represents community volunteers who are committed to the completion of the field and the establishment of ongoing youth resources.
